Cransley School Outdoor Classroom & Event Tent

This new facility has so much potential for the pupils of Cransley School. Not only will it provide a huge additional space for learning, capable of accomodating over 160 pupils at one time, it will serve a flexible purpose throughout the school year.

The Tipi structure is scheduled for daily use across various academic subjects, serving as a dynamic, open-air breakout classroom. This flexible space is unique to learn within, and this shift in the normal working environment enhances retention and recall.  There would still be all of the usual classroom facilities with Wifi and a projector screen.

At other times, the Event Tent will host parent social events, marketplaces, run by pupils as well as local artisan traders, local schools and groups visiting Cransley and Foundation events.

Come and visit us and see the Tentipi in use by our pupils, or at an open day.

Strategic Alignment

This project directly delivers on the Educational and Social Engagement pillars of the 2026-30 Strategic Plan:

  • Outdoor classroom: to assist and promote access to outdoor learning across the school, working towards Eco-Schools Green Flag or the RHS School Gardening Awards; stronger climate awareness and sustainability curriculum, in close alignment with the continued development of the School Community Farm project.

  • Local Impact: Creates a venue for Work experience / Volunteering opportunities for Y10/11 pupils in place as part of early vocational programme and ‘inter-generational collaboration’ and even for hosting local community events.

  • Social Village: Begins to fulfil the proposed objective to develop a small Parent Hub with coffee and Wi-Fi to turn the school into a periodic social centre.  Acts as the anchor ‘tenant’ for the future “School Social Village” concept including spaces for pop-up traders and enterprise zone.
