Safeguarding and Child Protection

Our priority and policy as a School is to know everyone as an individual and to provide a secure and caring environment so that every pupil can learn and develop in safety. We firmly believe that safer children make more successful learners and, therefore, Cransley School is committed to taking all reasonable measures to safeguard and promote the welfare of each pupil in our care. This policy recognises that both mental and physical health are relevant to safeguarding and the welfare of children.

Our Safeguarding policies and procedures are regularly checked for statutory compliance by the Independent Schools Inspectorate. The latest compliance check was during a material change inspection in February 2023. The policy for this year has been reviewed and developed by the Designated Safeguarding Lead, Mrs Jill Pargeter and the Headteacher, Mr Richard Pollock, following the publication of Keeping Children Safe in Education 2023, and then robustly reviewed and ratified by the Board of Governors. It can be found below.

If you have any concern as to the safeguarding and welfare of our pupils, please contact the Designated Safeguarding Officer, Mrs Jill Pargeter, by email jpargeter@cransleyschool.org.uk. If a child is in immediate danger or at risk of harm a referral should be made to local authority children’s social care and/or the police immediately. Anyone can make a referral.

Staff conduct and Safe Recruitment

All staff are under a duty to comply with the high standards of behaviour required by the School and to behave in a professional and reasonable manner at all times.

As part of Cransley School’s commitment to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children, and applicants for work vacancies at the School must be willing to undergo child protection screening appropriate to the post, including checks with past employers and an enhanced DBS Check, declaration of fitness to work and declaration of prohibition from management.

All staff receive annual training on matters of safeguarding, health and safety, supervision, behaviour management, social extremism (Prevent) and numerous other professional issues.

If you have any concern as to the conduct of staff, please contact the Headteacher or if the complaint is about the Headteacher, please contact the Chair of Governors, Dr Darren Walter.
