Multi-Sensory Dyslexia Support
All children have needs, and no School is able to meet the needs of all children.
When pupils show signs of specific learning difficulties, such as dyslexia, we feel confident that we have the environment, size and provision to support Dyslexic pupils in achieving their potential.
A multi-sensory lesson
Multi sensory lessons are given on an individual weekly basis to Cransley students who are in need of some extra support - all led by our two highly experienced PATOSS / BDA specialist teachers. Usually, in order to avoid lost curriculum time an cognitive overload, this occurs at home by a teacher working remotely. Resources are sent directly to your home for daily practice.
The aim of multi-sensory learning is for the child to acquire a permanent automatic response to the names, sounds and shapes of phonographs, together with an ability to out them into a sequential order. Using this method, visual, auditory and kinaesthetic perceptual systems are interacting sufficiently to make learning secure, and decoding (reading) and encoding (spelling) skills are explicitly developed.
The pace of the lesson depends on the individual and their needs. Over-learning is naturally built into the lesson and is essential. The method of teaching, as well as being structured, needs to be cumulative with many opportunities for revision.
This motivates the child through success and draws on previously learned knowledge when in difficulty.
