Junior School Pupil Parent Bulletin. 28.6.24
The Final Countdown!
Well, well well! As if by magic, the final week of our Summer Term is upon us. We have an incredibly busy and exciting week ahead - and it’s crammed into only three and a half days! First up are our two Transition Days - where children will work with their new class teacher. These are swiftly followed by Wednesday afternoon’s Prize Giving Ceremony and refreshments on the back lawn. Then finally, Thursday morning brings our Moving Up assembly for Year 6 and their families.
Unfortunately, as bad luck would have it, my second and final residential for the Masters course I am enrolled on falls squarely on the last three days of the week. This means that sadly, I will not be with you in person to celebrate all the successes of the year, nor to congratulate Year 6 on the completion of their Junior School education. As disappointing as this is for me, I know that Mr Pollock and my wonderful Junior School Team will have no trouble running things in my absence… Meanwhile, I shall be studying Educational Leadership fervently in the roundabout-lovers paradise - Milton Keynes. Spare a thought for me as you sip on your fizz.
Hold on to your hats - here comes a thick slice of a very exciting week just past!

Year 6 Adventures
I’m really not sure it would be possible to cram any more excitement into one week than Year 6 managed this week. They scrambled up Old Pale in Delamere; they pitted their wits and teamwork skills against pitching their bell tent accommodation for the annual Camp Out; enjoyed dining al fresco in the evening, feasting on their pizza of choice; they threw themselves at every challenge possible in Wild Shore’s Aqua Park on Friday (following limited sleep). We are so proud of each and every one of them! A HUGE thank you goes to Mr Armstrong, Miss Lloyd, Miss Coulthard, Mr Harris and our logistics team for supporting throughout.

Big Art Week
Our celebration of art and design was a huge success this week - Mrs P’s expert coordination and creative flair, combined with the skills of the rest of the teaching team enabled all pupils and staff to enjoy a fantastic three days of shared learning and collaborative art. Watching our children work alongside each other across the school is really something to cherish! There were spots galore, pointillism, nature rubbing and some wonderfully colourful metal flowers - We look forward to welcoming you in to see the finished pieces in due course. Here’s Mrs P’s rundown of the activities:

Dots have adorned Cransley Junior School this week, both in learning activities and on the pupils themselves! Pupils ranging from Reception to Year 6 have all participated in creating some big art pieces, learning about some famous artists and painting techniques in the process…
Pupils experimented with textures whilst producing tree rubbings and sketched shadows of flowers in the sunshine. They learned about how art and mathematical formulas work in unison within nature, as identified by Fibonacci many years ago. The children even worked collaboratively to produce pattern-based temporary art pieces inspired by Andy Goldsworthy!
We brought our shared garden space to life with colourful flower sculptures inspired by Yayoi Kusama. These stunning flowers have been created as a memorial piece for a wonderful member of staff who sadly died last year, Mrs Jones. We hope that the flowers brighten up our school as much as she did every day.
In order to learn more about pointillism, pupils analysed the stippling effects and colour combinations used by George Seurat in his famous piece, ‘Sunday In The Park’. They then worked collaboratively with Senior pupils and staff to produce a giant canvas piece in the style of Seurat!

Tapas, Anyone?
Year 5 and 6 enjoyed culinary delights and some excellent conversational language practice during our Tapas afternoon. It was wonderful to see the variety of food contributions from home as well as the cheeky treats served up by Chef Ed. Despite the 28 degree heat, the children revelled in trying different foods from Spanish and French cuisines. Thank you all for your support!

Bring the Beach Back
Reception and Year 1 ventured beyond this week and worked together to ensure they had ‘the best day ever’. They helped to bring the beach to Cransley by entering a sand castle competition and throwing themselves down the biggest slip n slide ever! Even Mrs Gallanders had a go. They also got to soak the teachers with sponges and water squirters which definitely helped to keep us cool. It was an extraordinary day for all and the children’s smiles absolutely made the day.

Papercraft Club
Ahoy! This week in Papercrafts we became pirates by carefully folding and designing our own pirate hats. Then we went in search of 20 golden coins to open the treasure chest. The room filled with excitement to see what was hidden in the chest. We carefully opened the lid to find it was filled with yummy chocolate coins!
Thank you for an action packed and very fun paper crafts this term.

Violin Performance
Year 4 have been learning how to play the violin in their Music lessons with Miss Parry this term. The children have all made such great progress that we simply had to have a recital on Friday and show off their skills to their friends and families! The children performed four brilliant pieces involving plucking and using a bow, their most impressive piece being ‘Trolls, Orcs and Goblins’ (the Alton Towers theme tune). A huge well done to Emelie Monks too, who sang a beautiful solo with amazing levels of confidence. We look forward to more musical performances again next year!

Manchester Museum
Years 2 and 3 headed to Manchester this week for an enjoyable off-site learning experience at the Manchester Museum. We had time to explore the natural history, living world and fossils and dinosaurs collections as well as the opportunity to take part in a hands-on workshop where we were able to handle real Ancient Egyptian artefacts! It was a fantastic way to end our Ancient Egyptian History topic which we have all loved this term!

More Pizza!
Our after school club were treated to a pizza making session this week - they loved adding their own toppings and watching them bake in the oven!
